Leaders and the Greater Common Good
September 2014
Rationale:
As leaders in the school and society, we
truly do have within our power the vision and the opportunity to realize a
community where its highest goal is the achievement of the greatest public
good. Our citizenship should model a
just society that is characterized by kindness, equality and opportunity for
all. Have you been inspired by someone whose leadership is founded on similarly
noble principles? Now is your chance to
reflect on those qualities of great leadership that you've witnessed or
experienced and share the influence they've had on you and your motivation to
lead.
This project is, I hope, the start of a
very long journey for you, to discover your vision of the common good and how
you as a leader will contribute to its maintenance and promotion.
Project:
Research (with bibliographic references) a
person you consider to be your model or hero who has committed to a leadership
role in serving the public good. As part
of your research and analysis, you must specify;
-
a brief biography of their life
-
their accomplishments in serving the public good
-
the obstacles they had to overcome to serve the public good
-
the methods or leadership styles they used to serve the public good
Choose a presentation style (ex. poster,
Prezi) that can be displayed or revisited by the class in order to serve as a
source of motivation and a reminder of our purpose. Don’t forget a photo!
